Billionth ad placed on Marktplaats is for a drum set

Online classifieds site Martkplaats officially passed the 1 billion mark in number of ads placed. The billionth advertisement was placed by a Rotterdam resident offering his drum set for sale, news wire ANP reports. The very first Marktplaats ad was placed in 1999. Sixteen years later the site is boasting with 7.3 million visitors per month and 4 ads per second - 350 thousand per day and some 10 million per month. During the busiest time of day - every day around 9 p.m. and Sundays during important football matches' rest times - more than 1,600 search requests are entered on the site per second. The largest categories on the site are shoes with more than 19 million ads, chairs with 6 million and ladies' bags with 4 million.
