Arrests made in Amsterdam, Zaandam weekend shootings
A shooting incident on Cornelis Outshoornstraat in Amsterdam on Saturday left one man dead and another man wounded. One suspect was arrested. Another, unrelated shooting at a wedding in Zaandam on Friday left one man critically injured and two arrested. So far there are no indications that either of these shootings were assassination attempts from within the criminal circuit.
The police responded to a report of a shooting incident in a home on Cornelis Outshoornstraat in Nieuw-West at around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. There they found two wounded men. One was rushed to the hospital, the other died at the scene. One man was arrested.
The wounded victim was identified as 27 year old Peter L., a former cafe owner, Het Parool reports. The police assume that the shooting was the result of an argument in L.'s home that got out of hand. Until last year L. ran a mail order business from his home and a consultancy business on advertising and internet site. Another business, which makes paintings based on photographs, is also registered at his address. L. also owned a cafe in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, but this is now in the name of a relative. The deceased was identified, but the information was not released.
The police also arrested two men - aged 68 and 39 years old, both from Barneveld - in connection with a shooting in a party center on Sportlaan in Zaandam on Friday night. A 56 year old man from Amsterdam was seriously injured. This shooting, which happened during a wedding celebration, seems to be related to relationship problems, according to the newspaper.
