Turkey likely to expel Dutch reporter Fréderike Geerdink

Turkey may deport Dutch journalist Frederike Geerdink after she was arrested on Saturday in the Hakkari province for being in a restricted area. The governor of the province decided that the Dutch woman will have to leave the country, NOS reports. The central government still has to ratify the decision, but according to the broadcaster, they generally follow the decision of the governor. Geerdink has been sent to a center for foreigners waiting to be deported. Her lawyer confirmed to the broadcaster's correspondent that he will be opposing the decision and in the mean time Geerdink can not be deported. It is unclear whether he will manage this in time. Earlier this year Geerdink faced the Turkish court on charges that she made propaganda for a terrorist organization. She was acquitted.
