Murdered nurse reported “several” threats to police

Linda van der Giesen, the 28 year old nurse that was shot and killed at the Tweesteden hospital in Waalwijk on Monday, had recently reported threats to the police "several times". A spokesperson for the police confirmed this to RTL Nieuws. The police would not comment on the nature of the threats or on who made them. According to Omroep Brabant, sources within the victims' family and friends claim that she was threatened by her ex-boyfriend. The police believe that Van der Giesen was the victim of a targeted attack. The shooter is still at large. According to a spokesperson for the hospital, no additional safety measures have been taken at the hospital. "There is no reason to directly connect the hospital with the shooting", the spokesperson said to RTL. The hospital is open as usual. Only the department where Van der Giesen worked will be closed for the rest of the week. Patients of that department are being treated by other branches of the hospital.
