HIV prevention pill in high demand in Amsterdam

The new HIV inhibitor Prep is in high demand among gay men living in the capital. GGD Amsterdam recently announced a trial on the pill that reduces the risk of HIV infection. Only 370 men can participate in the study, but the number of applications were much higher. A spokesperson for GGD Amsterdam said this to the Telegraaf on Monday. Prep is meant for people who do not have HIV, but are at an increased risk of becoming infected. The pill has little known side effects and is already freely available in the United States. The GGD trial will last three years. According to NU., critics argue that while the pill indeed reduces the risk of HIV infection, it encourages more licentious behavior and does not prevent other diseases.
