Youth unemployment shows signs of improvement
The youth unemployment rate is showing signs of improvement. Over the past three months the number of young workers increased by an average of 2 thousand per month.
This is according to figures released by Statistics Netherlands on Monday.
In June a total of 1.3 million young people between the ages of 15 and 25 years were employed - an increase of 63 thousand compared to the same month last year. In this period the employment rate among young people increased by 3 percent - from 58.3 percent in June 2014 to 61.3 percent in June 2015. Most of these young people have part-time jobs of up to 12 hours per week.
According to Statistics Netherlands, the employment rate among people in this age group that are no longer studying dropped from 76.6 percent in the first quarter of 2005 to 76.0 percent in the firs quarter of this year.
