Mitch Henriquez, killed during arrest, laid to rest in Aruba

Mitch Henriquez was laid to rest in Aruba on Thursday. Some 250 people attended the service at the Santa Ana church on the island. Some attendees wore T-shirts reading "Justice for Mitch". Henriquez was buried in the church's cemetery, RTL Nieuws reports. Family members and friends carried his coffin, while his son and mother watched with tears streaming down their faces. Mitch Henriquez passed away on Sunday, June 28th, after being arrested at the Night at the Park music festival in The Hague the night before. He was visiting the Netherlands on holiday. The autopsy on his body showed that he likely suffocated, probably caused by the police using a chokehold on him during the arrest. The five officers involved in the arrest have been suspended. His death sent shock waves through the communities of both The Hague and Aruba. The Rijksrecherche have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The Inspectorate for Security and Justice has also started investigating the use of chokeholds by police officers.
