Health Min: Insurers need more transparency

Minister Edith Schippers of Public Health wants health insurers to be more transparent by reducing the number of different health insurance polices they offer to people. According to the Minister, the wide range of different combination of policies often confuse people. She also wants insurers to stop presenting the basic package and the supplementary package as one insurance policy. Many people do not know that the basic package and supplementary package are two different insurances that can separately be taken out with various insurance companies. "Offering the supplementary insurance and basic insurance as one package can therefore be misleading", Schippers said. "I have asked the Dutch Healthcare Authority to oversee it and, if necessary, take enforcement action."
