South African asylum seeker kills self in Rotterdam detention center

A South African asylum seeker committed suicide in the Rotterdam Detention Center on Monday morning. The 28 year old asylum seeker was set to be deported to France, NOS reports. He had entered the Schengen area via France and therefore has to request asylum in that country. The man presumably hung himself. State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice has been informed about the suicide. He regrets the incident and expressed his condolences to the man's survivors. The Health Inspectorate and the Inspectorate for Security and Justice are investigating.
