Elsevier to sell off weekly magazine
Publishing concern Reed Elsevier is screening the market for a potential buyer of its weekly, reports Financieele Dagblad (FD).
Weekly news magazine Elsevier is strongly associated with its parent company, according to De Telegraaf. The opportunity for a sell, however, arose following Reed Elsevier’s recent move to operate under a new name, RELX.
Among potential buyers named by the FD are Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG) and De Persgroep. FD also mentioned interest earlier expressed by the Belgian media group Roularta.
Reed Elsevier refused to comment on the intended sale. “We never comment on rumours in the market,” a company’s spokesman is quoted saying in De Telegraaf.
The magazine dates back to 1891. It was originally issued monthly, switching to its current weekly format in 1945. Over the last three years, its circulation has fallen by more than 30 percent.
