Human trafficking arrests up over 23 pct. last year
The number of people arrested for suspicion of human trafficking in the Netherlands has risen by almost 25 percent from 2013, according to figures released by the Ministry of Security and Justice on Friday.
National police and the military branch tasked with civilian police operations, the Marechaussee, arrested 336 people in 2014 and only 272 in 2013, reported newswire ANP.
In 2014 more project-related investigations were carried-out, due to serious indications of people trafficking, particularly from Eritrea.
There were 26 targeted investigations that netted a total of 58 arrests, contributing to the high overall number.
