Thieves suck all diesel from filling station storage in minutes
Diesel thieves have come up with a new way to steal thousands of liters of fuel in a short amount of time. They drive by unmanned pumping stations with prepared trucks and suck the fuel straight from the underground storage tanks.
A security guard from Shell saw this new way of stealing in action, AD reports. He turned to a surveillance camera after getting a notification that diesel is continually flowing from a pump in Dongen. He saw two men in a white van filling up four huge vats of a thousand liter each directly from the underground storage. The thieves brought their own pump and hoses. This method has also been used in Eindhoven and Geldrop.
Both the police and filling stations are very worried about this new method. "The tanks the thieves use are not suitable for transporting such dangerous substances." said spokesperson Steenmeijer of the Brabant police, AD reports. "Imagine what would happen if the driver has an accident with 4 thousand liters of diesel in the back."
