Nursing home care improves after damning TV report

The quality of care in the nursing home where State Secretary Martin van Rijn's (Health) mother lives, has improved significantly. "The institution has done incredibly well", Van Rijn said in the television program Jinek on Wednesday. He discussed the situation around the WZH nursing home in the Hague. There was a lot of commotion about this three months ago when Van Rijn's father, Joop van Rijn, and another man, Ben Oude Nijhuis complained about the inadequate care and lack of supervision to the AD. Van Rijn admitted to Jinek that the care "was not optimal" then. "But they responded well." he said. "Much has been improved and changed." He also stressed that "this kind of situation occurs in every setting. That is because nursing care is individual care." The State Secretary did not want to say much more, calling it a vulnerable situation.
