Mother of dead newborn "underage girl"

Police in Breda believe they have identified the mother of a dead newborn child found at an apartment building. The baby boy was found in a garbage bag on the landing in front of a flat on December 30. The suspected mother is an "underage girl" believed to have been mentally unwell and in need of both "medical and psychiatric care" at the time of the incident, police say. The girl’s age and the manner in which the baby died will not be released by officials. The young girl was scheduled to appear before the court this past Friday. She was taken into custody earlier in the week and immediately began treatment from doctors. The arrest took place after police consulted with prosecutors on the case.
