Man and dog rescued from oncoming train

A man and his dog was rescued from an oncoming train in the nick of time yesterday in Veenendaal. At around 11:45 a.m. the 64 year old Arno Hubert and his dog, Nando, was driving over the crossing on Groeneveldselaan with a wheelchair-scooter. The scooter died as the man was crossing the rail. The man tried to get the scooter started again, but to no avail. As the barriers of the crossing were closing a bystander jumped in and managed to get the man and his dog off the tracks just in time. A moment later the train crashed into the scooter. "I am eternally grateful to this man", Hubert said after he caught his breath at home. No one was injured. Rail traffic had to stop for a time and passengers were able to exit the train unharmed.
