Animals rescued from nighttime Groningen fire
The fire department rescued a dog and two cats from a burning farm in Wedde last night. The barn and house were completely destroyed. The residents were not home when the fire broke out.
Initially it was unclear whether any of the residents were home. As the blaze was too hot for firemen to enter, the fire department used a thermal imaging camera to check the house. They saw now people, but did see a dog. Firefighters were able to rescue the dog out of the building quickly.
The cats could only later be rescued. A spokesperson for the fire department confirmed that the cats were alive when firefighters brought them out of the burning building. It is not yet clear how serious their injuries are. A veterinarian examined the animals.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
