Bol.com takes on jewelry stores
The internet retail company Bol.com will start selling rings, watches, necklaces and sunglasses, giving the ailing jewelry business a strong competitor, the Algemeen Dagblad reports.
The online shop is one of the biggest in the Netherlands, and sells various consumer products such as electronics, books, music, films, sporting equipment, garden tools and baby products. Adding jewelry to that list seems like the next attack on regular shops.
"We see that there is demand for it. Because we see what people enter into the search bar of our website", says marketing director Michel Schaeffer.
According to the company, the addition to jewelry to their online store is not a negative, but a positive. "We actually think that it is a gift for the sector. Because we open up our shop for other shop owners, they can expand their reach in one blow", Schaeffer says.
