Teen arrested for 'threat' tweet, R'dam
Police in Rotterdam arrested a 14-year old girl because of a tweet she sent to American Airlines in which she impersonates a terrorist, and hints at a future attack. The girl announced herself at a police station in Rotterdam on Monday. In her tweet, the girl said she was an Afghani man named Ibrahim, was part of Al-Qaida, and that was planning to do something 'big' on the 1st of June. American Airlines responded to the tweet, writing: “Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.”
Sarah then panicked and sent back several apology tweets, to no avail. The police in Rotterdam investigated, of their own accord, not at the request of American authorities. During the investigation, the girl announced herself, in the presence of an adult, at a police station. After speaking with the District Attorney, the teenager is being heard. It is not yet clear if she will be prosecuted, or if any further action will be taken against her.
