Car thief drives into Amstel river, dies.
An 18-year old man from Amsterdam died on Monday after stealing a car and driving it into the Amstel river.
A man was working on his car on the Ouderkerkerdijk in Amsterdam on Monday afternoon. The moment he walked away, his car was stolen.
The owner of the car immediately called the police, and jumped on his bike to look for the car thief in the area.
He found his car floating in the Amstel river. Two policemen, who were present at the time, had already jumped into the water to try and help.
After a few minutes, the 18-year old was pulled out of the water by divers from the fire department.
After resuscitation, he was brought to the hospital, but died there some time after. The family has been notified.
