Fortuyn killer to be released on 2nd of May

Twelve years after the murder of Pim Fortuyn, Volkert van der Graaf is going to be freed from prison, state secretary for Justice Fred Teeven (VVD) announced on Wednesday. Van der Graaf is going to be released on parole, after serving out two-thirds of his sentence. The murderer has to adhere to several conditions of his release. He is not allowed to speak to the press According to the prison where Van der Graaf has been serving his time, however, there are grounds not to release him with conditions. They claim that there is little possibility that Van der Graaf will repeat offense, and that he has no psychiatric disorder. Earlier temporary probational leaves, which were ordered to happen once a month to help Van der Graaf get used to his freedom, went without incident. Therefore, the Public Prosecution Authority has decided on the release date of the 2nd of May this year. That date will mark the 12th anniversary, bar four days, of Van der Graaf's murder of LPF-frontrunner Pim Fortuyn on the Media Park in Hilversum.
