Elderly woman dies due to negligence
An 81-year old diabetic woman from Haarlem passed away after being stuck under a couch for four days.
The woman did sound the alarm, but was never helped. In this awful position, the woman finally passed away.
The case only came to light this week, during a meeting of the Medisch Tuchtcollege (board of medical examiners) in Amsterdam, even though the woman died in December 2012, dichtbij.nl writes.
Care workers did receive the woma's cry for help, and came to her door twice. It remained quiet inside the house, and the door wasn't opened. It is possible that the woman could no longer react, as she proved to have had extremely high blood sugar levels.
The inspection for health care thinks that the fixed care worker did not handle the situation properly. The nurse herself thinks differently, and places the blame with Fundumzorg, the organization she worked for at the time.
The Tucchtcollege will make a ruling in April. A criminal procedure is also running against the care organization. It is not yet clear when the case will be handled by the court of justice.
