Amsterdammer shot dead in Zaandam

Police are searching for witnesses of a shooting incident in Zaandam this morning that has left one man from Amsterdam dead. The man’s body was found around 7.30 lying on the curb next to a car parked on Pieter Jelles Troelstralaan. The shooting sent shock waves through the usually calm neighborhood in north Netherlands. “He was a nice young man. He just moved here and he was always polite when he passed me in the street,” a neighbor said about the 30-year-old Amsterdammer. Nobody in the neighborhood seemed to know his name though; police said they had indications who he was. Witnesses said they saw two men running away after the shots were fired. Police briefly cordoned off the area for the investigation and asked witnesses who may know something to come forth. They suspect that a car that was found ablaze at Reizigersweg in Amsterdam could be linked to the shooting in Zaandam.
