MINI brings hundreds of jobs to NL

VDL Nedcar needs almost 2,000 people to build new 3-door Mini Hatchbacks in Born, Limburg. 1,500 former Nedcar employees will be supplemented with 400 new staff, according to CEO Joost Govaarts. Late 2012 Nedcar was taken over by the VDL group in Eindhoven.

Since that time 300 former Nedcar staff members worked on readying the factory for the production of BMW-Mini's, while the remaining 1,200 were home on unemployment, supplemented by the VDL concern, to 100 percent of their last wages. Production is scheduled to start in the Summer this year. Until that time the staff will receive the proper training needed. It's still unsure how many Mini Hatchbacks will be produced, but the factory in Born will likely also produce the larger Mini Countryman.
