Violent passenger diverts flight, locked up
Marechaussees detained an American man at Schiphol Monday night, after he went berserk on board an aircraft and forced the captain to land in the Netherlands.
The flight was midair, en route from Israel to the US, when the 34-year-old passenger started misbehaving. According to a report by the Marechaussee on its official Facebook page, he became aggressive and started insulting fellow passengers and cabin crew. When things threatened to get out of hand, the crew eventually pinned the man down and kept him in restraints.
The captain decided to divert and land at the nearest airport, which happened to be Schiphol, where the Marechaussee, a branch of the Dutch armed forces that handles security at the airport, had been alerted. The violent passenger was picked off the plane and locked up in a cell at Schiphol's Judicial compound, where he remained on Tuesday morning. The captain is reportedly planning to file an official complaint against him.
