A former civil servant who was going to testify in the hate speech trial against PVV leader Geert Wilders, decided to not testify after all, according to Wilders' lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops. The man is afraid that he will be prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service, the lawyer said to AD.

Decorated soldier Marko Kroon will be prosecuted for assaulting a cop in Den Bosch during Carnival early in March. He will be prosecuted for "breach of honor, insult and simple assault", the Public Prosecutor said in a statement on Friday. The Ministry of Defense announced that Kroon is suspended in anticipation of his trial.

New evidence has been found showing that police detectives falsified evidence in the case surrounding the murder of Jacqueline Wittenberg in Deventer in 1999, the Volkskrant reports based on a recently surfaced CD with more than 150 photos and reports from the criminal investigation. According to the newspaper, exculpatory fingerprints were left out, a victim photo with an exculpatory bloodstain was removed, and crucial passages were left out of the police report.

The appeal in the hate speech case against PVV leader Geert Wilders will continue. The court in The Hague saw no reason to declare the Public Prosecutor inadmissible, as Wilders had requested. The court will, however, allow the defense to call former Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten, former head of the Public Prosecution Service Herman Bolhaar and a number of senior officials to testify as witnesses, NOS reports.

Former TV presenter Frank Masmeijer, suspected of trafficking cocaine through the port of Antwerp, was arrested in a hotel in Breda on Tuesday. Geert Wilders and his lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops want the appeal in the hate speech trial against the PVV leader postponed until after the Public Prosecutor decided what to do with discrimination charges pressed against D66 leader Alexander Pechtold over a remark he made about Russians.

Wilders and Knoops sent the request for postponement to the Court of Appeal in The Hague on March 1st, the PVV confirmed to RTL Nieuws.

After his acquittal by the Argentinian court on Wednesday, former Transavia pilot Julio Poch is considering suing the Dutch and Argentinian States, his lawyer Geert Jan Knoops said to the Volkskrant. Poch was acquitted of involvement in so-called death flights during the military dictatorship in Argentina between 1976 and 1983. He was arrested in Spain in 2009 after a tip from the Dutch judiciary and extradited to Argentina, where he spent eight years in custody before his acquittal.

The trial revolves around statements Wilders made about wanting fewer Moroccans in The Hague while campaigning in 2014. In December last year, Wilders was found guilty of hate speech, but not given a punishment. Both Wilders and the Public Prosecutor appealed.

Dutch soldiers picked up a BUK missile in Georgia early this year and brought it back to the Netherlands to use as evidence in the criminal investigation into the MH17 disaster, sources told RTL Nieuws. Employees of military intelligence service MIVD flew to Georgia on February 21st, and returned with the missile a day later. It was delivered to the Gilze-Rijen military airbase.

Relatives of killed Moluccan train hijackers received transcriptions of sound recordings made when soldiers stormed the hijacked train at De Punt in 1977. A number of soldiers were carrying recording equipment, intended for training purposes. The Netherlands Forensic Institute transcribed the recordings after the court ordered this done, NOS reports.

The Netherlands was using a "rough remedy" when it decided to deny two Turkish Ministers access to the country, according to International Law and Politics professor Geert-Jan Knoops. If Turkey decides to take legal action against the Netherlands, the Netherlands may well lose the case and be punished for violating international law, the University of Amsterdam professor said to BNR.

The court in Den Bosch acquitted police officer Ronald V. on appeal for shooting an innocent passenger in a getaway car in 2013. When the case was first tried, the Kerkrade police officer was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to two years in prison, AD reports.

V., his family and many colleagues were in court to hear the verdict.

The Public Prosecutor abused its power by charging Geert Wilders with hate speech, according to the PVV leader's lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops in court on Friday. According to the lawyer, the Prosecutor charged Wilders because he doesn't like Wilders' beliefs, not because theya re punishable, Telegraaf reporter Saskia Belleman tweets live from within the court room.
