A man from Venezuela was arrested in the Dominican Republic under suspicion of involvement in the murder of two Dutch citizens from Amsterdam last year.

According to the Dominican Republic's police the arrested man's name is Carlos José Gascon González alias El Gocho (the pig). He is supposedly the leader of a criminal group active in the Caribbean, South America, the USA and Europe. According to newspaper AD he was captured on Dec. 29 in the neighborhood of Piantini in Santo Doming, the capital city.

The Dutch Navy seized a total of nearly 700 kilograms of cocaine in two separate drug busts in the Caribbean in the last 48 hours, Hart van Nederland reports.

During a shooting exercise off the coast of Curacao, Dutch frigate Zr. Ms. Van Amstel received a report of a suspicious small motorboat north of the territorial waters of Colombia. The NH-90 helicopter was deployed to find the motorboat, and Zr. Ms. Van Amstel set sail in its direction.

Dutch man Johan Smoorenburg and 160 orphan children are hunkered down and waiting for hurricane Matthew to hit Haiti, he said to RTL Nieuws. Smoorenburg runs a shelter village for orphans 15 kilometers outside Port-au-Prince.
