Dozens miss Transavia flights after overnight check-in problems at Schiphol
Dozens of Transavia passengers missed their flights at Schiphol Airport overnight from Saturday into Sunday after long lines formed at the airline’s check-in desks. Transavia said the airline was unable to handle the large flow of vacation travelers, which caused delays at check-in desks and led some passengers to miss their flights.
A Transavia spokesperson confirmed the missed flights following reporting by De Telegraaf. The airline said Schiphol has been very busy throughout the summer, and the travelers were advised to arrive at the airport well in advance.
The problems had been resolved later on Sunday, according to Transavia. The airline said it was looking for solutions for passengers who missed their flights.
Schiphol announced earlier this month that it expects more than 12.7 million travelers to pass through the airport in July and August. That is slightly higher than last year, when about 12.4 million passengers traveled through Schiphol during the summer holiday period.
Overall, summer holiday plans in the Netherlands remain largely unchanged despite concerns over inflation, energy prices, and global conflicts, according to an earlier RTL Nieuwspanel survey of about 23,000 people. About 35 percent of respondents said they plan to take a summer holiday this year. Among those travelers, 74 percent have already booked their trips.
