Ajax and Twente discover paths in Conference League and Europa League qualifiers

Ajax and FC Twente have found out their potential opponents for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League and UEFA Europa League, respectively. Twente will face the winner of the two legs played between FK Vojvodina from Serbia and Hungarian side Ferencvaros, while Ajax will face the side that is defeated.

Vojvodina and Ferencvaros meet in the opening Europa League qualifying round, with ties scheduled for 9 and 16 July. The first leg of the two-legged tie between Vojvodina and Ferencváros will be played at the Karađorđe Stadium in Novi Sad, Serbia. The draw was made in Nyon, Switzerland.

Ajax open their tie on 23 July away from home before hosting the return leg on 30 July. FC Twente also starts with a home game on 23 July and concludes away on 30 July.

Ajax will enter the Conference League qualifiers following a disappointing season, ending fifth on just 56 points. It marks their lowest league total in the Eredivisie since 1962; they were able to salvage European football by beating FC Utrecht on penalties in the final of the playoffs.

The 23 July fixture will be the first official match in charge for Ajax’s new head coach Míchel, who took over at the Amsterdam club in June 2026 following his spell at Girona.

FC Twente earned Europa League qualification by finishing fourth in the Eredivisie after a surge in results following the appointment of John van den Brom as manager. The 59-year-old has signed a contract extension until 2027 due to his successful form.

Vojvodina ended the previous season as runners-up in the Serbian Super Liga, finishing 10 points adrift of title winners Red Star Belgrade.

Ferencváros dominated the Hungarian NB I league with seven consecutive titles from 2019, but last season’s championship slipped away on the final day. ETO FC Győr edged them out by a single point to claim the title.
