Dry start gives way to rain, wind gusts and 17–20°C highs this weekend in Netherlands

Saturday morning will begin dry under widespread cloud cover across the Netherlands, with occasional sunshine breaking through, especially in Noord-Holland and in the east. Cloud cover is expected to gradually increase, though conditions could remain mostly dry, with only local showers possible, WeerOnline reports.

Later in the day, rain is expected to spread in from the southwest. Skies will turn overcast, bringing rain to the south, west, and later the central parts of the country. In the east and northeast, dry intervals are likely to persist at first, along with a few showers, before rain reaches those areas later in the afternoon.

Temperatures will reach 17 degrees in Zeeland, 18 to 19 degrees in the west, and up to 20 degrees in the east, with a moderate southerly wind continuing.

In the evening, rain is expected to continue at intervals, alternating with brief dry periods. Later and overnight, showers will move across the country. Winds will shift to the southwest and are expected to strengthen along the western coast, becoming fairly strong with gusty conditions. At sea, winds will increase from strong to hard, with gusts around 75 km/h. Overnight lows will fall to 11 to 15 degrees.

Sunday will begin with cloud cover and scattered showers across much of the country. The west is expected to turn dry earlier, with breaks in the cloud allowing sunshine through.

By early afternoon, the final showers are expected to clear the northeast. Conditions will then turn mostly dry, with cumulus clouds and periods of sunshine. The northwest and western coastal regions are expected to see the most sun. Temperatures will reach 18 to 20 degrees, with the Wadden Islands slightly cooler.

Winds will remain moderate but are expected to become fairly strong along coastal areas and over the IJsselmeer from the southwest. Along the coast, winds are expected to remain strong and gusty, producing breezy beach conditions. UV levels are anticipated to rise to 6 in the early afternoon, posing a risk of sunburn, despite this.

By early Sunday evening, sunshine is expected to increase further across many areas, and winds are expected to ease, becoming light to moderate inland and moderate along the coast. Overnight into Monday, skies will feature clear intervals and patches of high cloud, with lows again between 11 and 15 degrees.

Monday will begin with widespread sunshine in many areas, though high cloud cover will remain present. As the day progresses, sunshine will become more intermittent. Temperatures are expected to rise to 20 to 22 degrees across most regions, with local highs up to 23 degrees in the southeast, typical for the season. Winds will remain moderate from the south.

Later on Monday afternoon and into the evening, showers are expected to move in from the west, with winds shifting to the southwest and temperatures dropping by several degrees.

After that, the pattern is expected to remain unsettled, with daily showers and occasional sunshine. Afternoon temperatures will hold between 16 and 19 degrees, on the cool side for June, under a predominantly moderate southwesterly flow.
