Former Aegon headquarters in The Hague to become national cybersecurity hub
The former Aegon headquarters at Aegonplein in The Hague will be transformed into a national center for digital security, the city announced Friday. The project, called the House of Cyber, will house the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of the Ministry of Justice and Security, the research institute TNO, and the Ministry of Defence.
The municipality of The Hague plans to purchase the building and has requested approval from the city council, which must decide by March 16. The total investment for the acquisition and renovation is 60 million euros.
The Dutch government first proposed creating a national digital security center in 2022, citing increasing threats from cyberattacks by criminals and foreign actors. Officials said the new hub will strengthen the country’s cyber resilience.
Several security organizations in The Hague already collaborate through the The Hague Security Delta. Currently headquartered near station Laan van NOI, these organizations will relocate part of their operations to the Aegon complex.
The building sits at Aegonplein near station The Hague Mariahoeve. Aegon began relocating its headquarters to the United States last year under a new corporate name. Its Dutch operations and the The Hague office were sold to ASR, which moved the staff to Utrecht. The former Aegon headquarters has been vacant since late last year.
