TikTok term “67” named the 2025 Children’s Word of the Year

The Children’s Word of the Year 2025 is “67,” NOS Jeugdjournaal announced Tuesday afternoon. The word was chosen in a vote by Dutch children, which received over 100,000 votes. This year marked the second edition of the Children’s Word of the Year vote, with 67 following last year’s winner, “bruh.”

Starting in early December, children could submit words through the Jeugdjournaal app and website. Out of 20,000 entries, the editorial team selected a top eight. Aside from 67, the other options included “bro,” “yusu,” “clock it,” “cooked,” “slay,” “wat de helly,” and “ai.”

The final vote came down to 67 and cooked, with 67 winning decisively. Some 73 percent of those voting selected the phrase.

The term, 67, pronounced “six-seven,” doesn’t have an actual meaning. It comes from TikTok and is popular among children. The outcome was no surprise to the Jeugdjournaal team. Editor Romy Posthumus noted that you can’t walk into a classroom without hearing it.

The expression’s popularity extends beyond the Netherlands. Recently, children in Flanders also chose “67” as their Children’s Word of the Year 2025.

Van Dale announced on Tuesday morning that “hallucineren” is its Word of the Year 2025. A new definition was added earlier this year: “hallucineren (of generative language models): providing information not based on (reliable) data, making it inaccurate or entirely false.”

In this context, the word was chosen for its relevance. Van Dale noted that it has gained widespread use over the past year “due to the broad integration of AI applications.”
