KLM maintains flights to the Dutch Caribbean despite U.S. airspace ban over Venezuela
KLM will continue flying to Caribbean destinations within the Dutch kingdom, including Curaçao and Aruba, despite the U.S. president’s decision to close Venezuela’s airspace. The islands lie very close to the South American nation.
The development follows a warning last week from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The agency alerted major airlines to a "potentially hazardous situation" when flying over Venezuela due to a "deteriorating security situation and increased military activity in or around" the country.
According to a KLM spokesperson, the measure announced by President Donald Trump has no impact on the airline’s flights. "KLM has already avoided Venezuelan airspace for more than a week," the spokesperson said.
However, the airline added that some South American routes may require minor adjustments to avoid Venezuelan airspace.
