Renowned United States university reportedly looking into settling in The Hague
There is “a possibility” that a renowned university from the United States will “establish” a branch in The Hague, the municipality reported, according to AD. The municipality did not say anything about which university is involved.
According to the city, political changes in the United States under Donald Trump’s presidency have prompted this university to look into establishing a European branch. Trump wants to make significant cuts in scientific research and also limit what research can be done. The man is set against any research that touches on diversity, inclusivity, or women’s rights.
Some leading American universities already have branches, research centers, or programs in places like London and Paris, but not yet in the Netherlands. And European universities, including Dutch ones, have made it clear that any American scientists looking to leave the country are welcome.
According to AD, The Hague also reported several opportunities for new conferences and networks in the city. The Hague’s international standing is fantastic, partly due to the successful NATO summit in June. An “unprecedented number” of institutions are interested in establishing themselves in the city, The Hague said in September.
The city also said that The Hague’s involvement in the World Bank’s rule-of-law program could eventually lead to the establishment of a new “intergovernmental” organization.
