First arrest through new Dutch anonymous tip line in Spain
The Dutch police’s new anonymous tip line on the Costa del Sol in Spain has resulted in its first arrest. A 32-year-old man from Soesterberg, who still has to serve a prison sentence for drug possession, was arrested on July 7, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) told the NPO Radio 1 Program Het Misdaadbureau.
The Dutch police set up the anonymous tip line in Spain in June in an attempt to gain more information about Dutch criminals hiding on the Spanish south coast. According to the OM, the tip line has received dozens of tips about drugs and undermining activities, among other things.
The Soesterberg man was on the international wanted list. He still has to serve 18 months in prison for possessing a large quantity of hashish and cocaine. He has been extradited to the Netherlands and is in custody. He has appealed against his conviction.
According to NOS, the Spanish south coast is a major hub in international drug trafficking. Drug traffickers meet there to conduct their deals. Some live there permanently.
