De Volksbank completes rebrand as ASN Bank, shuttering branches and cutting 700 jobs
De Volksbank has formally transitioned to operating under a single brand, ASN Bank, as of Tuesday, marking a major rebranding and structural overhaul for the state-owned financial institution. The name change had been announced in December 2024 and includes the gradual phasing out of the subsidiary labels SNS, RegioBank, and BLG Wonen over a three-year period.
The rebranding is reportedly already visible nationwide. Over the previous weekend, all SNS branches were converted into ASN Bank offices. The bank now has a visible presence in 116 locations across the Netherlands. The transition of RegioBank’s clients and 230 independent advisors to ASN Bank will take place in 2026, followed by the integration of BLG Wonen.
“This is a future-focused, financially strong bank,” said CEO Roland Boekhout. “A bank that logically builds on sustainability, housing, and local presence — the broad social foundation previously laid successfully by our four brands.” De Volksbank, now ASN Bank, serves about 3 million customers.
Boekhout emphasized that the simplified organizational structure is necessary to improve the bank’s commercial and operational effectiveness. As part of the transformation, more than 700 jobs have been cut to reduce operating costs. That reorganization, announced in late 2024, has now been completed.
Hundreds of SNS and RegioBank branch locations will also be closed as part of the consolidation.
De Volksbank was nationalized in 2013 after the Dutch government intervened to rescue its former parent company, the struggling SNS Reaal bank and insurance group.
