School kids bullying each other with AI generated nudes

Those in the Netherlands in life threatening danger should immediately dial 112 for emergencies, and anyone suffering from depression or contemplating suicide can call 113 Zelfmoordpreventie at any time by dialing either 113 or 0800-0113, or by visiting 113.nl.

AI-generated nude and sexual images are circulating at several secondary schools, Pointer discovered in a survey of over 60 schools. Kids are using these images to bully each other, the schools said.

24 percent of schools said that bullying with sexually explicit AI-generated images sometimes occurs. 10 percent said they’ve encountered it more than five times a year. According to the schools, students edit photos of each other with AI tools to create sexually suggestive images and then share them on social media. Students also take existing pornographic images and paste the heads of fellow students onto them.

Generating and distributing fake nude photos is punishable if it is done without the involved person’s consent. If the person is a minor, the images are considered child pornography.

Helpwanted, a helpline for victims of online harassment, told Pointer that these types of images can have drastic consequences. “The impact is very diverse,” Nikki Lee Janssen of Helpwanted said. “Some victims call us and are actually quite okay, mainly wanting to get the images offline. Others don’t want to live anymore, because they can’t imagine that this will ever be behind them. Unfortunately, we also have people on the phone who are suicidal because someone has generated fake images of them.”

Schools also told Pointer that students use AI to bully each other in general, non-sexual ways. 90 percent of schools are worried about this phenomenon. 87 percent expect that bullying with AI-generated sexual images will happen more often in the future. 87 percent want to ban AI undressing apps and websites.
