Lidl recalls German steak tartare over listeria contamination
Lidl Nederland has issued a recall for its German mince steak tartare after the product tested positive for the listeria bacteria, the supermarket chain announced. The contamination poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, young children, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The affected product is German steak tartare sold in Lidl stores across the Netherlands. It carries a best-before date of March 13, 2025, and bears the barcode 4056489681731. Customers who purchased this item are advised not to consume it.
Listeria infection can lead to severe illness, particularly in high-risk individuals. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. In severe cases, the infection can spread to the nervous system, causing headaches, confusion, and convulsions. Pregnant women face additional risks, including potential miscarriage, stillbirth, or severe illness in newborns.
Lidl has urged customers to return the contaminated product to any of its stores in the Netherlands. Shoppers will receive a full refund, even if they no longer have a receipt. The supermarket chain has emphasized the importance of not consuming the affected meat and apologized for the inconvenience.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has confirmed the recall and issued a public safety warning on its website. The agency reiterated the potential dangers of listeria and advised consumers to check their purchases carefully. Further information is available on Lidl’s official website.
