Man fatally stabs own dog after attack in Amsterdam-Noord
A man in Amsterdam-Noord stabbed his own dog to death Saturday night after the animal bit him and refused to let go, police confirmed. The incident took place inside his home on Pinksterbloemstraat in the Floradorp neighborhood.
The attack happened shortly after 10 p.m. According to police, the man was bitten on both his leg and forearm, with a particularly deep wound on his arm. Unable to break free, he grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed the dog. Emergency services responded with two ambulances, and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
“It’s a sad situation,” a police spokesperson said. “He suffered serious wounds, and bite injuries often carry a high risk of infection.” Witnesses reported that the dog was a pit bull, though authorities have not officially confirmed the breed.
While the attack occurred inside the home, it drew significant attention from neighbors. The animal ambulance arrived to remove the dog’s body. Police have not provided details on whether the dog had a history of aggression or if any prior incidents had been reported.
