PostNL releases special postage stamp commemorating 750 years of Amsterdam
PostNL is going to release a postage stamp, especially for the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam. Each sheet contains five stamps, each with a continuous ribbon with the number 750 on it. It is a reference to the official jubilee banner, which can be seen throughout the capital.
“With this special postage stamp, we are not only honoring the past, but we are also celebrating the future of Amsterdam,” said Maurice Unck, director of Mail Nederland of PostNL. “As a capital city, Amsterdam has a unique spot in our country and the hearts of many. PostNL is proud to contribute to this festive milestone with this design.”
The stamp has been designed by graphic designer Michiel Schuurman. The stamps have been available since Thursday via the PostNL webshop and at Bruna stores.
The entire year is dedicated to the birthday of Amsterdam, which will be exactly 750 years old on October 27 of this year. Gold and silver commemorative coins have also been issued previously.
The highlight of the festivities is on June 21, when a big party will take place on the A10. Around 15 kilometers of highway will be closed for music, sports, theater, dance, and more.
