Dutch national arrested in Suriname with 7.5 kilograms of cocaine
Authorities in Suriname arrested a Dutch national at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport on Thursday after 7.5 kilograms of cocaine were discovered concealed in his suitcase.
The arrest was carried out by agents from the International Drug Enforcement Service during a routine inspection of the suspect’s luggage. According to officials, the drugs were hidden in a false compartment at the bottom of the suitcase.
"The man’s bag drew attention due to its unusual size and shape," authorities reported. A subsequent search uncovered the cocaine stash.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Suriname’s narcotics brigade has stated that the arrest may not be an isolated incident. Officials suspect that additional individuals could be involved in the smuggling operation.
"The investigation is ongoing, and we are not ruling out further arrests," said a spokesperson for the narcotics brigade.
