Four more people in custody after Amsterdam violence; Yeşilgöz meets with Israeli Foreign Minister

Four more people are in custody following the violence in Amsterdam on the night of Thursday to Friday, the police reported.

Before, during, and after the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match, the police arrested a total of 62 people in the immediate aftermath, and ten of them were still in custody on Friday afternoon. Eight of them are adults, and two are minors. On Friday, another person, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of public violence.

According to the police, five people were hospitalized, and 30 others suffered minor injuries following the attacks on Israeli football supporters in the Dutch capital. About 1,200 officers had worked in the city since Thursday afternoon, including 800 who were deployed on the streets of Amsterdam before the football match and during the violence that followed.

The police did not want to provide any further details and referred to the Public Prosecution Service, which will provide more information later on Saturday.

On Friday evening, Minister David van Weel of Justice and Security and the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa'ar spoke to the press at Schiphol.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Schoof met with representatives of the Jewish community in Amsterdam on Friday evening. They discussed “the impact that the events of last night had on them,” reported a spokesperson for the Prime Minister. It was a closed meeting “so that they can talk to each other in peace.”

VVD leader Dilan Yeşilgöz also spoke with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar about the attacks on Maccabi Tel Aviv football supporters in Amsterdam on the night of Thursday to Friday. She told Sa’ar "that we will not rest until the guys behind this are arrested and this tide of Jew-hatred is stopped," Yeşilgöz wrote on X. She also spoke to people from the Jewish community earlier in the day.
