Child pornography found at mental hospital for court-ordered psychiatric treatment
Child pornography was found in the Boschoord psychiatric clinic in Boschoord, Drenthe, sources told the Telegraaf. The material was found in a special department for sex offenders in the clinic that treats many patients sentenced to psychiatric treatment, known as a TBS measure in the Netherlands.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Security confirmed to the newspaper that the police were investigating the discovery of “possibly criminal material.” It was found during an inspection.
The clinic treats around 200 people, about a third of whom are there due to a court order. According to the newspaper, the Boschoord clinic is known to treat TBS patients with serious behavioral problems.
In August, two TBS patients escaped from the clinic. One failed to return after unsupervised leave, and the other escaped during supervised leave. The police tracked both down and returned them to the clinic.
A few years ago, employees at the clinic told the Telegraaf that the hospital was covering up incidents, struggled with severe understaffing, and workers were buckling under the workload. Investigations by the Justice and Security Inspectorate, the Youth and Healthcare Inspectorate, and the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate confirmed the image. The clinic has been under increased supervision for years.
