Man arrested for woman's suspicious death in Groningen
The police arrested a 56-year-old man from Groningen for suspected involvement in the death of a 58-year-old woman from the same city. She was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a home in the city on Tuesday morning. Multiple sources told RTV Noord that the man, Marc B., had previously been sentenced to institutionalized psychiatric treatment for a serious crime.
The police discovered the woman’s body in the home on Linnaeusplein at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A few hours time later, the police released the name and photo of the 56-year-old man, saying that he knew the victim.
The man had last been seen at an ATM on Oosterhamrikkade in Groningen at 7:20 a.m. He left on a scooter. The police found the scooter in Vries, Drenthe, in the afternoon and arrested the man in the area later in the evening.
It is unclear what crime B. was previously convicted of, but the fact that the police released his details so quickly indicates that they considered him dangerous. It is a drastic measure, a spokesperson for the Noord-Nederland police told RTL Nieuws. “But we as police have carefully made this decision in consultation with the Public Prosecution Service.”
Sources told the RTV Noord that B. and the victim were in a relationship. They met each other about 10 years ago in a thrift store in Groningen, where B. worked under supervision as a patient of the Van Mesdag clinic in the city.
