Quarter more campers, caravans sold in Netherlands in July

Over a thousand new campers and caravans were bought in the Netherlands in July, a quarter more than in the same month last year, according to figures from the industry association KCI. “Traditional Dutch camping is flourishing,” KCI chairman Leo Diepemaat said. “That is also evident from the current record number of no fewer than 620,000 caravans and campers in the Netherlands.”

In July, KCI registered 254 new campers and 796 new caravans, an increase of 25 and 28 percent, respectively, compared to July 2023. In the first seven months of 2024, dealers sold 5,016 new caravans (+8.5 percent) and 1,852 campers (+12.5 percent).

“Camping remains immensely popular. Even in the middle of the high season, we are now seeing large numbers of new caravans and campers being delivered, with the owners immediately setting off across Europe,” Diepemaat said. “Normally, there was only a peak in deliveries in early spring, but now there is constant demand throughout the year.”

Second-hand sales also remain high. Dealers sold 11,531 used campers and 9,610 caravans in the first seven months of the year, about the same as a year earlier. “The turnover rate is high. What comes in is also sold almost immediately,” Diepemaat said.
