Swimming in Amsterdam canals not allowed, police warn; €160 fine

The weather is nice, and swimming is fun. But swimming in the Amsterdam canals is not allowed and is very dangerous, the Amsterdam police reminded people on Instagram. People caught doing so will face a 160 euros fine.

“The canals are crowded with boats, which increases the risk of accidents,” the police wrote on Instagram. “In addition, the water is often polluted, which poses health risks.”

The police said to only swim at permitted swimming locations. A list of such locations in Amsterdam can be found here.
