Video: Three hurt in three separate small plane incidents, including two crashes
A small plane crashed on Wednesday afternoon in Ederveen, leaving two people hurt, one of whom was critically injured. The incident was the second crash involving a small aircraft in the Netherlands that day, with a pilot hurt in a glider crash earlier in the afternoon. A small airplane landed alongside a Rotterdam The Hague Airport runway in a third incident.
There were two people sitting inside the aircraft when it crashed near the Buurtweg in Ederveen, Gelderland, police said. The incident took place just after 2:20 p.m. The airplane crashed near a farm in the village, which is close to the border with Utrecht, according to ANP.
Emergency services crews raced to the scene, including police officers, fire fighters and paramedics. An air ambulance was also sent to the scene carrying a medical trauma team.
It was not yet clear if the person who was seriously injured was the pilot. The other person in the plane was also hospitalized.
The pilot of a glider was also hurt after a separate crash at the small airport in Hoogeveen, Drenthe in the afternoon. A reporter at the scene said the glider struck a lamppost on landing and then overturned in a ditch.
The incident happened just after 12:15 p.m., emergency records show. When they arrived on scene, they found the overturned aircraft with broken wingtips and a nose dipped into muddy water.
The pilot was taken to an area hospital. His condition has not been released.
There were no known injuries in the third incident, when a small airplane landed next to the runway at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, the third largest airport in the Netherlands. That incident happened at about 2:55 p.m.
A spokesperson for the airport said the two-seat aircraft likely made an emergency landing, but the cause was not yet known.
It was not immediately clear if the incident would affect airport operations. There were a few delayed departing and arriving flights at the airport on Wednesday afternoon, according to the airport’s website.
