Amsterdam theme park set to open in Germany

A windmill is visible from the highway. Soon, it will be joined by tulips, a Dutch village with papier-mâché facades and stores selling Dutch foods. However, this scene doesn’t take place in the Netherlands –– it’s in the middle of Brandenburg, Germany.

Despite living in Germany for almost 30 years, Dutch investor Theo Roelofs is still dreaming of a trip to an open-air park outside of Amsterdam, reports German tabloid B.Z. He remembers the “slowly-turning windmills, small houses with dark green facades and white window frames,” and now he wants to bring them closer to home.

Holland Park will bring a "little Amsterdam" to Germans in the community of Panketal and be open all year round. Admission costs will initially be free. Plans include a skating rink during Advent season, a small private museum with Dutch objects, restaurants and a garden center. The windmill will house a miller and a museum will show children how flour is made.

The park is currently logging new developments via its Instagram account, where one follower has petitioned for bitterballen to be included on the menu.
