Damaged property and fallen trees in the north and east after heavy winds

Heavy winds caused damages in the north and east of the country. Particularly, Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe were heavily affected. On Sunday morning, the KNMI lifted a code yellow warning for these areas, although winds can still reach up to 50 kilometers per hour.

In Groningen, roof tiles from the westside of the Gasuniegeboue on the Concourslaan came loose on Saturday. The N7 between Hoogkerk and Groningen was temporarily closed off due to falling tiles.

In Friesland, dozens of reports about damaged property or fallen trees came in.

The back facade of a farmhouse collapsed in Drenthe on Saturday night, RTV Drenthe reported. No one was injured in the collapse.

The wind gusts also hit other countries. In the United Kingdom, a nine-year-old boy was killed by a falling tree. In Germany and Denmark, train service had to be canceled due to the weather.

Heavy winds will persist on Monday. The KNMI announced a code yellow warning for these provinces for Monday, with winds reaching 75 to 90 kilometers per hour. Monday also brings a 90 percent chance of rain and maximum temperatures up to eight degrees.
