Body of teen girl killed in hit and run had been dragged, accident expert says

The body of 14-year-old Tamar Boes from Marken had been dragged to the roadside after she was fatally hit by a car last summer, according to an accident expert. This was reported by the lawyer of the relatives, Sébas Diekstra.

Tamar left her home on the night of July 25, 2020, after an argument about her bedtime. The police later found her body on the verge of the Zeedijk between Marken and Monnickendam. She died instantly, according to research.

The Public Prosecution Services (OM) recently ruled that a 28-year-old German was responsible for the collision but that he could not have suspected that an accident had occurred. The man stated that he simply drove on because he thought he had hit a hole in the road. He was fined for checking his phone at the time of the accident.

Accident expert Willem Baan Hofman concluded based on the traces found on the road that Tamar must have been moved after the collision. Forensic pathologist Frank van de Goot also reported that he cannot rule out this scenario.

“You can clearly see that the victim was first moved forward and that there is an angle. We analyzed hundreds of accidents and that angle cannot have come as a result of a collision or an accident”, Hofman said.

The scenario that the girl had been dragged was investigated but that no DNA from the occupants of the car had been found on her, the OM stated earlier.

The relatives of Tamar are awaiting further investigation before making the decision about further steps.
