Counseling, housing readied for more human trafficking victims in NL

The Dutch government is preparing more housing and counseling for victims of human trafficking, Minister Hugo de Jonge of Public Health, Welfare and Sports announced. A total of 36 new reception centers will be opened in five municipalities this year.

Victims of human trafficking often struggle with complex health issues, such as psychological problems and addiction. Last year research by Tilburg University's Coordination Center against Human Trafficking showed that there is a great need for shelter options for these victims. By creating new reception places, the government is aiming to meet this need. 2 million euros was made available for this in the coalition agreement.

The new reception places will open in Almere, Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Zwolle. Care will be provided by Blijf Groep, Fier!, HVO Querido en Kadera. The association of Dutch municipalities VNG selected the care providers.
